Sarah Kinsley (she/her) is a granddaughter, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, therapist, facilitator, and student. She is grateful to live and learn on Turtle Island, home to many nations who continue to steward the land, air, and water. Sarah is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and holds a MEd in Counselling from the University of Victoria, a BEd in Education from Queen’s University and a BA (Hons) in Indigenous Studies/Spanish from Trent University. She has had the privilege to train with Indigenous Elders and Traditional Indigenous Knowledge (TEK) holders in the field of healing within Canada and abroad. Sarah is a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SETM) certified through the Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Institute. Currently, Sarah teaches Mindfulness-based programs at The University of Toronto. She accompanies people in individual counselling through First Nations Health Authority and in private practice focusing on Somatic Experiencing. Sarah co-designs and co-facilitates a 100-hour Yoga Teacher Training: Trauma Informed Practice: on and off the mat. In addition, she is honoured to be part of a research study at SickKids® Foundation offering MARS-A (Mindful Awareness and Resilience Skills for Adolescents) to youth. Recently, she was the key instructor and co-coordinator for the graduate certificate in Mindfulness-Based Teaching and Learning (MBTL) at The University of the Fraser Valley. She also helped develop and taught in the Integrated Mindfulness Certificate at Royal Roads University for years. Sarah has extensive training in Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs) including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Sarah completed a year-long training in MBCT facilitation and the Advance Teacher Training at the Centre for Mindfulness Studies. Currently, she shares this 8-week program at British Columbia for Living Mindfully (BCALM), The Alberta Mindfulness Association (AMA), and The Mindfulness and Health Institute (MHI) associated with Mindfulness Center at Brown University. Sarah is a former primary school teacher and registered Yoga facilitator for adults and children (E-RYT 500, RCYT). She has completed four Yoga Teacher Training courses and has studied with various schools in North America and Asia, such as Yoga Vidya Gurukul: Institute for Research and Education in Yoga, The Sanada Devi School of Yoga, Yoga in Your School, and Yin Yoga training with Carly Forest. She has studied Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) with David Emerson and Nicola Mosley. She is a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider® (YACAP®). Sarah is the author of Yoga Therapy: Ancient Therapy for Today’s Body, Mind and Spirit, a textbook chapter used in counselling education programs throughout North America.
